My Monster

Have students draw monsters with odd numbers of body parts and describe them orally and/or in writing (Example: "My monster has 3 legs.") It's especially great for creative and artistic children to get to express themselves.

Monster Dictation

Ask students to draw the monster you describe, then give statements about your monster like, "My monster has two heads." It's interesting to see how different they can look. I have used this as an informal assessment, as well, to check comprehension.
